If you’ve taken a peek at the Netflix Kids interface recently, you’ve probably noticed a growing trend: the lines between YouTube and Netflix are becoming increasingly blurred. For the past few years, the streaming giant has been actively licensing top-tier YouTube properties, betting big that digital-first creators can translate to premium streaming success.
But is the strategy actually working?

Here’s a deep dive into how YouTube creators and digital-first animation are reshaping the Netflix Kids ecosystem in 2026.
The Post-CoComelon Era
It’s impossible to talk about YouTube on Netflix without mentioning the behemoth that started it all: CoComelon. Arriving on the streamer in 2020, the nursery-rhyme juggernaut proved just how much engagement non-exclusively licensed YouTube IP could deliver.
However, Horgan’s H1 2026 report paints a clear picture of a changing of the guard. CoComelon has officially exited the top 10, and newer derivative shows haven’t been able to alter its downward trajectory.
Instead, a brand new wave of YouTube-born content has stepped up to the plate. What was once a strategy heavily dominated by preschool nursery rhymes now spans live-action, educational entertainment, and creator-led programming.
The New Rulers of Netflix Kids
According to data from January to June 2026, Netflix’s pipeline of creator-originated content is delivering massive engagement numbers. Here are the standout performers:
-
Ms. Rachel: After launching at the start of 2025 and setting new benchmarks, Ms. Rachel has fully cemented her status as streaming royalty. The series generated an eye-watering 208 million Hours Viewed across its two seasons in H1 2026. Horgan notes that maintaining this level of engagement with a relatively small catalog is “an increasingly strong signal of durability,” proving Ms. Rachel is moving from a breakout sensation to an evergreen staple.
-
Sheriff Labrador: This digital-first animated series is perhaps the biggest surprise of the half. After arriving on Netflix at the end of 2025, the show saw a major expansion from LATAM to global markets in H1 2026. The result? A staggering 784% climb, rocketing the show from 12.5M to 111 million Hours Viewed.
-
Salish & Jordan Matter: Proving that the YouTube strategy works for older kids and tweens, this live-action creator duo had the strongest launch month noted for a creator show (43M Hours Viewed in April alone). Across H1 2026, their succinct two-season rollout racked up 99 million Hours Viewed.
