Few actors star in as many reliably entertaining, pulpy action thrillers as Jason Statham. Whether it's something as twisty and frantic as Guy Ritchie's Snatch or as cornily self-aware as The Beekeeper, Statham's films are always a solid weekend watch. On that note, this creature feature, which has just landed on Netflix, is one of his most chaotic and ridiculous films to date.

What is The Meg about?

Loosely based on the horror novel Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror, the film follows a group of scientists who discover a giant shark while they're on a rescue mission at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. However, things become more ominous when they realize that the shark they're encountering is no ordinary shark, but a megalodon, a prehistoric species believed to have been extinct for more than two million years.

Who is in the cast of The Meg?

The film's ensemble cast includes:

  • Jason Statham as Jonas Taylor, a diver who specializes in search and rescue missions in the deep sea
  • Li Bingbing as Suyin, an oceanographer
  • Rainn Wilson as Morris, a billionaire funding the research facility
  • Cliff Curtis as Mac, the managing researcher of the facility
  • Winston Chao as Zhang, Suyin's father

Where can I watch The Meg?

The Meg is available to stream on HBO Max, Prime Video, and Netflix.
