As part of Netflix’s upcoming fall line-up for 2026, the streaming service will bring a modern western, one that only received a limited theatrical release, to its nearly 100 million-strong U.S. subscriber base.
The Thicket, the 2024 film adaptation of the 2014 Joe R. Landsdale novel of the same name, sees Peter Dinklage lead a star-studded western thriller that won near-equal approval from both critics and audiences, sitting at scores of 80% and 78% on Rotten Tomatoes , respectively. Once a Tubi original, the film will be heading to Netflix in the next few weeks as part of a licensing deal between the streaming services.
"Set at the turn-of-the-century, The Thicket follows an innocent young man, Jack ( Levon Hawke ), who goes on an epic quest to rescue his sister Lula ( Esmé Creed-Miles ) after she has been kidnapped by the violent killer Cut Throat Bill ( Juliette Lewis ) and her gang," according to the film’s official synopsis.
"To save her, Jack enlists the help of a crafty bounty hunter named Reginald Jones (Dinklage), a grave-digging alcoholic son of an ex-slave ( Gbenga Akinnagbe ), and a street-smart prostitute ( Leslie Grace ). The gang tracks Cutthroat Bill into the deadly no-man’s land known as The Thicket – a place where blood and chaos reign."
Metallica frontman James Hetfield , in addition to Andrew Schulz, Arliss Howard, Macon Blair, and Ned Dennehy also round out the film’s supporting cast.
