BBC and Netflix Composer Thomas Farnon Up for National Award

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and Netflix composer Thomas Farnon has been nominated for a prestigious national award, the Ivors Composer Award.

Farnon, from Guernsey, has made a name for himself with his work on various BBC and Netflix productions, including Mammals narrated by Sir David Attenborough and Our Planet II. His score for David Frost Vs... is shortlisted in the Best Original Documentary Score category at the awards.

In a heartfelt statement, Farnon expressed his gratitude:

"I'm really humbled to be nominated for an Ivors... It was always a dream to see one on my grandfather's shelf, but I thought one of my own was 'out of reach'. To be recognised in this way is a testament to my dedication to composing."

The composer's family has a rich musical heritage; his grandfather, Robert Farnon, and father, David Farnon, were both renowned composers who contributed to television and film scores.

Despite his successful career, Farnon returned to his hometown of Guernsey with his wife two years ago, highlighting the changing landscape of composer work, which now allows for international careers to flourish from even the most remote locations.

"For a long time, living in Guernsey while working as a composer didn't seem practical... but recent years have made it so much easier to work from anywhere. Guernsey has been working out brilliantly."

Farnon also praised the creation of a dedicated documentary score category at the Ivors, stating:

"Documentary scores are often overlooked, so for the Ivors to recognise them with their own category is brilliant... I'm truly humbled to be nominated alongside such talented composers."

The winners of the Ivors Composer Awards will be announced on November 17th in London.
