The latest iteration of the Jane Austen classic is set to premiere on Dec. 3.

Netflix

In the official trailer, released Wednesday, the romantic tale comes alive once more.

“One day, Jane, I shall be either a governess and a spinster, or a wife and a mother,” Emma Corrin’s Elizabeth Bennett declares to Freya Mavor’s Jane.

The trailer introduces Jack Lowden as Mr. Darcy, Olivia Colman as Mrs. Bennett, Rufus Sewell as Mr. Bennett, Hopey Parish as Mary, Hollie Avery as Kitty, and Rhea Norwood as Lydia.

Heartstopper’s Euros Lyn serves as director for the six-part series, which Alderton describes as faithful to Austen’s original work:

“Pride and Prejudice” is such a timeless story because of the emotions in the book; they are as pertinent now as they were in 1812.

Alderton adds that her initial hesitation to adapt the beloved novel eventually turned into an honor:

I thought of all the things that could go wrong, and then I put that all in a box. Since then, I’ve just thought about the honor and the privilege of being entrusted with this story.
