According to sources close to her, Meghan Markle’s camp believes Netflix used the casting buzz surrounding her potential role in The Gentlemen to promote the second season of the show.
The second season of Guy Ritchie’s series was released on Netflix on September 3. Rumors circulated that Markle would join the cast, but these proved unfounded. Sources now tell Fox News Digital that she is no longer in talks to appear in the series.
Markle stepped away from acting in late 2017 after her final season of Suits. She later starred in her own Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, which was canceled after two seasons. She is reportedly keen to make a comeback, with sources claiming she’s reviewing numerous scripts.
When the casting rumors for The Gentlemen emerged, they generated interest in Markle’s potential return to acting. However, this did not materialize, leaving her fans and camp disappointed.
A source told The Telegraph that Markle’s camp feels she was used as a marketing tool for the show’s second season. They noted that the second season was not as successful as the first, and a third season had already been commissioned, so a high-profile name was needed to generate headlines.
The source described it as an “old marketing trick” and stated that Markle’s camp believes Netflix deliberately attached her name to the script to gain significant viewing figures and publicity for the second season.
