Mike Epps Joins 'My Father's Son' Comedy Series at Netflix

Netflix is expanding its creative partnership with Mike Epps, one of the streamer's most popular stand-ups and star of its sitcom The Upshaws. Epps will star in and executive produce a new comedy series titled My Father’s Son, sources tell Deadline.
Reps for Netflix declined to comment. The series, inspired by the life of comedian Chris "Comedian CP" Powell, is described as a father-son story with plot details kept under wraps.
Epps exec produces alongside his producing partner Niles Kirchner, Bob Teitel at State Street, and Maurice Williams of Entergalactic, who will also serve as writer-showrunner. Doug Banker is also aboard to executive produce via Five All in the Fifth, as are Trevor Engelson of Underground and Comedian CP.
This project has gone through three rounds of development. Initially set up at HBO Max as a live-action show, it then moved to Netflix for development as an animated series before landing on its current live-action iteration.
Currently on his We Them Ones tour, Epps recently released his latest Netflix special, Delusional, which premiered globally on January 27 with nearly four million views in its first week—his strongest launch yet on the platform. This was Epps' fifth special for Netflix, and earlier this year the streamer inked a deal for two more from him.
Netflix's creative partnership with Epps dates back more than a decade, with his specials racking up 20.4 million views since 2023, according to the streamer's What We Watched reports.
