Morning Coffee and Weight-Loss Pills: What Doctors Say

Those who take GLP-1 medications like Wegovy should avoid morning coffee or tea

Those on oral glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) medications, such as Wegovy tablets, have been advised by doctors to steer clear of taking their medication with morning coffee or tea. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), these pills should be taken on an empty stomach with only up to 4 ounces of water.

Key Points:

  • No Morning Coffee: Wegovy tablets, being absorbed through the digestive system, can be affected by food and drink. Therefore, they should be taken at least 30 minutes before consuming any other liquids or beverages, let alone morning coffee or tea.
  • Wait for Food: Patients are advised to wait at least half an hour after taking Wegovy tablets before eating anything else.
  • Expert Opinion: Dr. Michael Hall, a board-certified physician, longevity specialist, and author of "Infinite Youth," confirms that coffee and tea can interfere with the absorption of Wegovy.
