Netflix has silently increased its subscription fees once more. The streaming giant's most affordable, ad-supported tier now costs $8.99 per month, up from the previous $7.99. The standard and premium plans have also seen a price rise of $2, to $19.99 and $26.99 respectively.
New Pricing Tiers and Additions
- Ad-supported plan: $8.99 per month (previously $7.99)
- Standard plan: $19.99 per month (previously $17.99)
- Premium plan: $26.99 per month (previously $24.99)
Adding extra viewers to these plans also comes at a higher cost:
- Ad-supported plan: $6.99 per additional viewer (previously $7.99)
- Standard or Premium plans: $9.99 per additional viewer (previously $8.99)
Netflix attributes these changes to improvements in its "wide range of entertainment" and service quality.
Recent Developments and Backed-Out Bid
These price increases follow recent updates to the platform, including the rollout of video podcasts and livestreaming content. Netflix also recently announced plans to revamp its mobile app and expand its short-form video feature.
The company backed out of a bid for Warner Bros. Discovery last month after the latter rejected its $82.7 billion all-cash offer in favor of Paramount Skydance's superior proposal of $31 per share.
