Netflix Developing The Surf House as a Thriller Series

Netflix is adding another mystery thriller to its lineup, based on Lucy Clarke’s novel The Surf House. Set in Morocco, this suspenseful story explores a haven for surfers and travelers where paradise conceals dangerous secrets.

Storyline:

In The Surf House, Bea arrives at a retreat nestled atop Moroccan cliffs after a frightening encounter in Marrakesh. She seeks safety but finds herself entangled in a year-old mystery involving another young woman who disappeared without a trace, the last place seen being The Surf House.

Production Details:

Ed Lilly, whose directing credits include Tell Me Lies and Industry, will lead the adaptation. Produced by The North Road Company and Jessica Rhoades’ Pacesetter Productions, the project is currently in development through Netflix's U.S. team.

Clarke, known for her gripping destination thrillers, has seen several of her novels adapted for screen. Her previous works, The Castaways, No Escape, and The Hike, have also been optioned or adapted into television series.

Lilly’s film work includes the 2020 indie drama VS. starring Connor Swindells.

Future Plans:

Netflix has yet to announce a cast or production timeline for The Surf House. However, given its intriguing premise and successful adaptations of Clarke's previous works, it holds promise as a captivating mystery series.
