Netflix lays off film head Dan Lin

Netflix has parted ways with film head Dan Lin, who was at the streamer for nearly three years. Lin greenlit a reported 88 films during his tenure.

Variety reports that Lin was laid off at the beginning of the weekend and is expected to address his teams today. The publication adds that Netflix is expected to announce Lin’s replacement in the coming days.

Lin joined Netflix in April 2024, replacing Scott Stuber. He reorganized the film department by genre and aimed to produce a wider variety of films with varying budgets. According to The New York Times, Lin wanted to improve the streamer’s film quality and make them more cost-effective.

He is the latest high-profile executive to leave Netflix as part of its recent restructuring, which has resulted in about 1,000 employee layoffs.

The film follows a ruthless Yakuza enforcer trying to save his family while involved in a deadly war for control of Tokyo’s first legal casino, clashing with an elite American hitman played by Hammer.
