Netflix Taps 'Friday Night Lights' Director Peter Berg for NFL Gameday Openers Narrated by Kyle Chandler
Netflix has engaged Peter Berg to direct the show opens for all four of its NFL gameday livestreams this season, marking the first time the platform has commissioned such a feature. The inaugural opener, debuting on September 10, will star Kyle Chandler, known for his role as Coach Taylor in the "Friday Night Lights" TV series and film.
Background
Berg, who directed the 2004 film adaptation of the "Friday Night Lights" novel, will direct four NFL pregame teasers this season. The first, titled "For the Love of Football," runs for two minutes and blends scenes from youth football teams with NFL game footage, evoking the spirit of its source material.
Chandler's Voiceover
In the voiceover, Chandler echoes his character's iconic lines from the series:
"And so it begins. Right here, right now. Today. You are going to win. You'll use your eyes to win. Your eyes will show you the truth. You’ll recognize it whether you like it or not."

In addition to the NFL gameday teasers, Berg is already collaborating with Netflix on the film "The Mosquito Bowl," based on the novel by Buzz Bissinger. The sports drama is set to premiere in theaters on October 30 before its November 25 release on Netflix.
