Netflix's 'Scooby-Doo: Origins' Wraps Production Ahead of 2027 Release
Netflix’s ‘Scooby-Doo: Origins’ has completed production, the company announced on Sunday. The live-action series is scheduled for a global release on the streamer in 2027.
According to the series' official logline, “Scooby-Doo: Origins” is a modern reimagining of the iconic mystery-solving group of teens and their very special dog.
During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne find themselves entangled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely, lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange but handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare exposing all their secrets.
The show, filmed in Atlanta, offers audiences a first look at the series. Past Netflix productions like "Stranger Things" and "His & Hers" were also shot in the state.
The previously announced cast includes:
- McKenna Grace as Daphne Blake
- Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers
- Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley
- Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones
- A real Great Dane will play the titular canine, a first for the "Scooby-Doo" universe.
The cast also features:
- Paul Walter Hauser (as Scooby-Doo’s owner)
- Rusty Schwimmer, Peter Macon, Jona Xiao, Dani Deetté, Elysée Sanvillé, Alex Isles, Avery Kristen Pohl, Pamela Mitchell, Ross Kimball, Sara Gilbert, Wynn Everett, Sauriyan Sapkota, Bruce McGill, André Benjamin and Cathy Moriarty.
Showrunners and writers Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg ("High Fidelity," "Everything Sucks!") executive produce alongside Toby Haynes. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman also executive produce via Berlanti Productions and its overall deal with Warner Bros. Television, along with André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Adrienne Erickson who executive produce via Midnight Radio.
