Netflix is developing a live-action TV series based on Atlus' popular Persona role-playing game franchise, according to a report by Variety. The adaptation is being produced by Story Kitchen and 21 Laps, the production company behind Stranger Things.

Christopher Monfette, known for his work on Star Trek: Picard, 12 Monkeys, and 9-1-1, will write the adaptation and serve as executive producer and showrunner.

While not a confirmed project, this development reflects Netflix's growing interest in video game adaptations. They've already produced animated series based on Arcane, Castlevania, Cyberpunk 2077, Devil May Cry, and Tomb Raider. Their live-action efforts have had mixed success, with Resident Evil being a one-and-done, but they're still working on a BioShock movie.

Persona, which began in 1996, has spawned four mainline sequels and numerous spinoffs since its debut on the original PlayStation. The most recent entry, Persona 5, was released in 2016, with Persona 6 announced earlier this year but without a release date.

The series' concept—Japanese high school students balancing everyday life with supernatural adventures—lends itself well to adaptation.
