The Love Island presenter Maya Jama made her acting debut in season two of Netflix's The Gentlemen. She played Aisha, a glamorous (and morally ambiguous) friend of Susie Glass. Her performance has been met with mixed reviews. Here’s what the cast says about working with her on set:
-
Jasmine Blackborow (who plays Lady Charlotte Horniman), told the Daily Star: “She was absolutely gorgeous on set and she was nervous because she’s not done this before. She was there running her lines again and again and when she did it, she was just such a pro.”
-
Kaya Scodelario (who plays Susie Glass) shared in Grazia: “I just said, ‘Hey, babe, heads up! This is going to not be what you expect. Be ready to be on your toes and trust the process.’ I knew how intimidating it is stepping into a new part of your career and coming from a working class background. I just wanted her to know that I’m a girls' girl.”
-
Maya Jama herself described director Guy Ritchie as “really kind and nice” in Variety: "He doesn’t feel as intimidating as you’d think, being who he is. He’s very personable and he would be like ‘yeah, you’re doing well’, and reassure me, which was really nice.”
Maya Jama is expected to reprise her role as Aisha in season three of The Gentlemen.
