Diablo TV Series in Development at Netflix
Blizzard Entertainment Announces Animated Series
Netflix is set to host an animated TV series adaptation of Blizzard Entertainment's popular "Diablo" video game franchise.
"Diablo" takes place in the dark world of Sanctuary, where humanity is caught in an eternal conflict between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells. The first "Diablo" game launched in 1996, marking this year as the 30th anniversary of the action-RPG franchise, while the most recent installment, "Diablo IV," was released in 2023.
BlizzCon 2026 Announcement
The "Diablo" TV series development news was revealed by Blizzard president Johanna Faries during the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2026 at the Anaheim Convention Center on Saturday. BlizzCon, a celebration of all things Blizzard Entertainment, including "Diablo," "World of Warcraft," and "Overwatch," is the first since Microsoft's $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard in 2023.
Faries shared in an interview with Variety ahead of the event, "BlizzCon in and of itself represents so much for all of us to be able to shine a light on all the great work going on at Blizzard... We have put a lot of thought into this moment, and why now, and how do we continue to capture and build on the momentum we’re experiencing as an organization?"
Variety will be covering BlizzCon 2026 on September 12-13, providing insights into the event.
