A Different World Renewed for Season 2 on Netflix
Netflix has renewed A Different World for a second season, just eight days after the show's debut on September 24th.
The streamer's confidence in the sequel to the beloved 1980s-90s NBC sitcom is evident. The new season will follow Maleah Joi Moon's Deborah and her Hillman College classmates as they enter their sophomore year.
“It’s so validating to be bolstered by our amazing audience," said creator and showrunner Felicia Pride. "We are beyond excited to return to Hillman and continue to tell meaningful and heartfelt stories that resonate across generations.”
The series has already achieved impressive viewership, with 4.2 million views and 23 million hours of watch time worldwide in its first four days, according to Netflix's internal data.
A Different World centers on Moon's Deborah, the youngest child of Whitley Gilbert (Jasmine Guy) and Dwayne Wayne (Kadeem Hardison), as she navigates life at a historically Black college, following in her parents' footsteps.
"Halleluja! The people and Netflix have spoken," director and executive producer Debbie Allen exclaimed. “A Different World brought something everybody needed: joy, romance, relevance, authenticity, and heart.”
