Netflix’s Surprise Hit:
Hasan Minhaj’s coming-of-age comedy Best of the Best has quietly climbed to the top of Netflix's global charts, surpassing blockbuster releases just days after its debut.
A Global Success Story
According to FlixPatrol data, the film is currently Netflix’s biggest movie worldwide, topping titles like The Whisper Man, A Minecraft Movie, and Superman. This achievement is particularly notable for a smaller-scale, culturally specific comedy competing against major studio releases.
Domestic Performance
While it excels globally, domestically Best of the Best ranks slightly lower. On Netflix’s Top 10 on Streaming in the United States list for September 22, 2026, it occupies the No. 2 spot behind The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, but still outperforms other titles such as The Seemingly Perfect Family and Why Did I Get Married Again?.
A Story About Bollywood Dance Teams
The film turns its lens on the competitive world of collegiate Bollywood dance teams, a little-known but passionate community. Written by Hasan Minhaj and Prashanth Venkataramanujam (based on their own experiences) and directed by Lena Khan, Best of the Best is one of the first mainstream films to center the Indian-American and diasporic experience.
At its core, the story follows Maya (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) and Anjali (Priyanka Kedia), best friends and dancers since childhood. After a mishap during their senior year dance performance, their friendship is tested as they navigate college life and their passion for dance.
