Hold on Tight for Netflix’s Sapphic Teen Drama ‘The Body’ With Haunting First Trailer

Netflix’s Sapphic Teen Drama ‘The Body’ Drops First Trailer

Netflix's newest teen drama takes us back to the early 2000s with a twist: a Catholic dance-team initiation gone awry leads a group of girls to question their own souls.

Director and writer Quinn Shephard, known for Blame and Not Okay, reveals that the show satirizes "some of the trauma of growing up queer, and repressed, and the confusion around that."

The trailer for The Body promises a Crucible-style mass hysteria. With familiar faces like Gabby Windey from Bachelor Nation, Cale Ambrozic from Finding Her Edge, and Sofia Wylie of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, this new series has us hooked.

What's the Story?

The Body follows a group of teenage girls after a disastrous dance-team initiation. Their lives take a supernatural turn as they start experiencing prophetic visions, sparking mass hysteria in their town.

Shephard describes it as "gritty camp," a "raunchy teen psychodrama with a dash of Catholic horror." She draws inspiration from classics like Carrie, Jennifer's Body, Heavenly Creatures, and even Mean Girls. She also notes the influence of The Crucible and its resonance in today's political climate.
