John Steinbeck's East of Eden is making waves once again, this time atop the bestseller lists, following the success of its popular Netflix adaptation.

A Timeless Tale

This classic novel, initially published in 1952, captivates readers with its epic narrative spanning multiple generations of a California family. Drawing inspiration from biblical stories, Steinbeck weaves a tale set against the backdrop of the post-Civil War era through World War I. East of Eden is considered Steinbeck's masterpiece, having won the 1962 Nobel Prize in Literature.

The Netflix Adaptation

The streamer's limited series, released in full on October 1st, has sparked a new wave of interest in the book. Starring Florence Pugh, Christopher Abbott, Mike Faist, Hoon Lee, Ciarán Hinds, and Martha Plimpton, the series was created and co-written by Zoe Kazan, granddaughter of Elia Kazan, who directed the 1955 film adaptation.

The official trailer, released on September 2nd, features Pugh's Cathy Ames as the narrator, setting the tone for the intense drama to come: "I believe there are monsters born in this world to human parents," she intones.

A Streaming Success

According to FlixPatrol, East of Eden quickly became Netflix's second most-watched series upon its release, surpassing even the popular sitcom A Different World. The series boasts an impressive 87% critical acclaim on Rotten Tomatoes and an 81% fan approval rating.
