Malin Akerman, Megan Follows Join Netflix Series ‘This Summer Will Be Different’

A bustling cast has joined the Netflix series adaptation of This Summer Will Be Different, based on Carley Fortune’s 2024 novel. Among them are Malin Akerman, Megan Follows, Nadine Bhabha and Matias Lucas.
Akerman (The Hunting Wives) will portray Aunt Stacy, Lucy Ashby’s aunt and mentor, while Follows (Anne of Green Gables) takes on the role of Cheryl. Bhabha (Heated Rivalry) and Lucas (The Order) are also set to star in the series, now in production in Toronto following its filming on Prince Edward Island.
Previously announced cast members include Sophie Nélisse (Lucy), Roby Attal (Felix) and Francesca Reale (Bridget).
Created by Dane Clark (Suze, One More Time) and Linsey Stewart (Workin’ Moms), the series follows Lucy as she navigates her 20s and her first real love with her best friend’s brother, the one person she was never supposed to fall for.
This Summer Will Be Different is part of Netflix’s growing Canadian slate, following North of North, Wayward, and The Granville Girls. Clark, Stewart, and Fortune are executive producing alongside Jennifer Kawaja (Wayward), Elise Cousineau (Cardinal), and Samantha Levine.
Fortune’s books continue to be adapted for screen. Her novel Every Summer After was turned into the YA series Every Year After at Amazon this summer, while Meet Me at the Lake is being developed as a film by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Archewell Productions for Netflix.
