Netflix Releases First Photo of Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen in "The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey"
Netflix has unveiled the first photo of Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen in their upcoming series, "The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey." The drama promises to delve into "one of the most infamous unsolved murder cases in American history."
In the image, McCarthy, 56, and Owen, 61, portray JonBenét Ramsey’s parents, Patsy and John Bennett Ramsey. The cast also includes Garrett Hedlund, Alison Pill, and Chris Bauer as investigators.
A Dramatic Shift for McCarthy
This role marks a departure for McCarthy, best known for her comedic performances in movies like "Spy" and "Bridesmaids." During a 2025 Golden Globes interview, she described the character as "quite a challenge" and expressed empathy for the Ramsey family.
"I love Patsy," McCarthy said, adding that she believes the show offers "a really great version" of the story. She also criticized the media’s treatment of the family following JonBenét’s murder, saying speculating about their involvement is "a blood sport."
The Ramseys and the Infamous Case
JonBenét Ramsey, six, was killed in her family’s home on Christmas night, 1996. Her parents, an affluent Boulder, Colorado, family, were initially suspects, as was their son, Burke, who was nine at the time.
In 2019, Burke settled a $750 million defamation lawsuit against CBS after a television series suggested he was responsible for his sister’s death. Patsy Ramsey died of ovarian cancer in 2006, while John Ramsey remains alive at 82.
The series aims to explore the crime, the media circus that followed, and the personal and public reckoning that unfolded.
