One of the most recognizable pop-culture figures of the 1980s is getting a closer look in a new documentary now streaming on Netflix. The latest entry from the streamer’s Untold sports documentary series arrived Tuesday, September 8.

Untold Mr. T: I Pity the Fool delves into the life and career of Laurence Tureaud, the man behind the gold chains, mohawk, and larger-than-life persona of Mr. T.

Directed by Scott Weintrob, the film traces Mr. T’s journey from his childhood in a crowded Chicago housing project to becoming an international star. It explores his early work as a bouncer and bodyguard before Sylvester Stallone cast him as Clubber Lang in Rocky III.

That role launched Tureaud into stardom, but it was just the beginning. He further cemented his fame as B.A. Baracus on The A-Team, and later ventured into animation and professional wrestling. He even made a notable appearance at the first WrestleMania alongside Hulk Hogan, solidifying his place in 1980s pop culture.

The documentary dives deeper, examining Mr. T’s catchphrases, iconic style, and personality traits that made him so memorable. It also goes beyond Hollywood success, exploring his faith, philanthropy, and his battle with T-cell lymphoma which temporarily faded him from the spotlight.
