Netflix and Sega Partner for Film Adaptations of ‘Crazy Taxi,’ ‘Sonic,’ and ‘Stranger Than Heaven’

Netflix has announced a new slate of projects with video game company Sega, including adaptations of their popular titles Crazy Taxi and Stranger Than Heaven, as well as a new Sonic children’s series.
Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, the writing duo behind the 2025 reboot of The Naked Gun, are set to pen Crazy Taxi. The game, first released in arcades in 1999, features players driving a cab through chaotic city streets, performing stunts and chasing tips with punk-rock energy. The upcoming sequel, Crazy Taxi: World Tour, is due out next year. Producers on the film include Neal H. Moritz and Toby Ascher from the Sonic franchise, along with Toru Nakahara.
Netflix’s animated Sonic series, in development with Carlos Stevens and Nakahara, aims for an upper pre-school audience. Described as "a high-voltage, comedic, yet emotionally grounded series built for kids who want to feel a little edge, a little attitude, and a lot of ‘that’s my crew’ wish fulfillment."
Stranger Than Heaven, from Sega’s RGG Studio, is set in early 20th-century Japan. The live-action feature film follows a foreigner’s rise from destitute stranger to feared yakuza to entertainment tycoon. Nakahara will produce this adaptation as well.
This partnership comes after their successful collaboration on the animated series Sonic Prime, which ran for three seasons.
"Expect something cute yet cool for Sonic, hilariously crazy for Crazy Taxi, and a badass action drama for STRANGER THAN HEAVEN," said Sega’s Head Producer Nakahara.
