Netflix is adding dozens of movies to its library to kick off December, including one of the most iconic films of actor Johnny Depp's long Hollywood career.

According to the latest reporting from What's on Netflix, Edward Scissorhands is set to arrive on the platform next month.

When is Edward Scissorhands coming to Netflix?

The Tim Burton classic is coming Dec. 1, per What's on Netflix's Kasey Moore. Currently, it is one of nine planned arrivals for that day, along with Coyote Ugly, The Good Liar, and The Kitchen.

"Tim Burton's gothic fairy tale stars Johnny Depp as a gentle, unfinished artificial man with scissors for hands, who is taken in by a suburban family and falls for their daughter (Winona Ryder)," reads the What's on Netflix tagline.

At the moment, you can watch Edward Scissorhands if you're a Hulu or Disney+ subscriber, while YouTube TV, fuboTV, Sling TV, and Amazon Prime Video subscribers can access the film with an add-on.

One of Depp's Best

Released on Dec. 14, 1990, Edward Scissorhands collected $86 million at the box office against a $20 million budget. Written by Burton and Caroline Thompson, the movie earned several Academy Award nominations and eventually took home the British Academy Film Award for Best Production Design and the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation.

A November 2025 ranking by ComicBook.com named Edward Scissorhands Depp's best movie, and it currently stands third on the list of Depp features according to IMDb user rating. The movie has a 93% ("Certified Fresh") mark on Rotten Tomatoes as well.

Other Major Names Shine

In addition to Depp and Ryder, Edward Scissorhands features Vincent Price, Alan Arkin, Dianne Wiest, Anthony Michael Hall, and Kathy Baker.

Interestingly, while the film was the start of a beautiful on-screen partnership between Depp and Burton, the 21 Jump Street star almost didn't get the starring role. Gary Oldman was also on the "short list," and believe it or not, Tom Cruise was considered as well, though Burton deemed him not a fait.
