Summary:
Currently streaming on Netflix, East of Eden is a period drama series based on John Steinbeck's 1952 novel. It ranks as the No. 1 show worldwide, surpassing even Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story. This new adaptation takes some creative liberties while expanding on storylines and characters from the original source material and the 1955 movie version. With seven episodes, it offers a richer, more complete narrative, particularly focusing on Florence Pugh's portrayal of Cathy.
What Is 'East of Eden' About?
East of Eden retells the biblical story of Cain and Abel through two families: the Trasks and the Hamiltons, during the late 19th century. The series follows brothers Adam (Christopher Abbott) and Charles (Mike Faist) Trask. After Adam returns from service, a beaten and bleeding woman, Cathy Ames (Florence Pugh), shows up at their doorstep.
Charles warns Adam against pursuing Cathy due to her apparent darkness, but Adam dismisses his brother's concerns. To Adam, Cathy is simply a survivor of a vicious attack.
East of Eden is available now on Netflix.
