Oscar-Nominated Mystery With 96% on Rotten Tomatoes Is Leaving Netflix

An Oscar-nominated mystery movie is leaving Netflix next week, and Anatomy of a Fall is worth making time for before it disappears from the service. Justine Triet’s 2023 courtroom thriller is scheduled to leave Netflix in the U.S. on September 23, alongside several other major departures this month.
Sandra Hüller stars as Sandra Voyter, a successful writer whose husband is found dead outside their house in the French Alps. What looks like a tragic fall soon becomes a murder investigation with Sandra as the main suspect. Only their young son, who is badly sighted, saw some of what happened, and the trial that followed is a complicated search for the truth.
Anatomy of a Fall, however, is not your standard whodunit. Instead of throwing new twists at you all the time, the movie spends a lot of time picking apart Sandra’s marriage and asking how well we can really know somebody. Court is shown arguments, recordings, and uncomfortable details of the couple’s relationship. Both sides interpret the same events in very different ways.
That makes the film unusually compelling because you never know for sure what you are supposed to believe. In one scene, Sandra might seem sympathetic, and in the next, she might seem suspicious, and the evidence presented in court keeps changing the way you look at the relationship.

It premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival to win the coveted Palme d’Or and became one of the year’s most acclaimed films.
