The media industry got a little smaller this week when Paramount Skydance completed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery to form Skydance (SKYD -1.29%).
Skydance, a conglomerate formed through the combination of multiple media companies over the last few years, now holds a massive back catalog, strong intellectual property (IP), two big streaming platforms, and a lot of debt.
However, in the world of media, Netflix (NFLX) stands out as a game changer. Here's why I'd rather own Netflix over Skydance.
Netflix is more streamlined, operating much more efficiently, and ultimately more predictable. Its focus on high-quality, original content has built a loyal subscriber base worldwide. In contrast, Skydance, with its vast holdings, faces a crucial test in proving itself as a unified, profitable entity.
Specifically, Skydance needs to navigate the complex landscape of content licensing, debt management, and consumer demand in an increasingly competitive streaming market. In light of the above, Netflix's simplified model and consistent performance make it a more appealing investment choice.
