Tesla Recalls Nearly 3 Million Vehicles in China Over Door Handle Safety Concerns
Tesla and other Chinese carmakers are making a significant recall of over 4 million vehicles due to safety issues primarily related to door handles, according to Chinese authorities.
Tesla EV Recall
Tesla is recalling approximately 2.98 million electric vehicles (EVs) in China, including the Model 3, Model Y, Model X, and Model S, due to door handle safety risks.
Chinese Regulation on Door Handles
This recall comes after China announced in February its plan to ban hidden car door handles, commonly found on Tesla EVs and many Chinese-made EV models, effective next year.
Safety Concerns
China has intensified scrutiny on hidden or flush car door handles following EV accidents, both in China and globally. In such incidents, the hidden electronic doors have malfunctioned, trapping occupants and hindering rescuers from gaining access.
Recall Details
China's State Administration for Market Regulation cited safety risks as the primary reason for the recall. Tesla will implement software updates to address these issues.
Other Carmakers Affected
In addition to Tesla, several other Chinese carmakers are also recalling vehicles for similar safety concerns related to door handles.
