Tiger Woods to Appear in Court for Change of Plea in DUI Case
Tiger Woods is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday for a change of plea hearing, five months after stating he was seeking recovery treatment following a rollover car crash that led to driving under the influence (DUI) charges.
The Incident and Charges
In March, Woods failed a sobriety test after crashing his car near his Florida home. He denied drinking alcohol but admitted to taking "a few" prescription medications earlier in the day. He was carrying prescription opioids in his pocket, according to an arrest affidavit.
Woods initially pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor DUI and refusal to submit to testing charges and received a traffic violation for careless driving. His original court date was set for September 8.
Court Appearance and Potential Plea Deal
A notice filed in court indicates Woods will appear at a plea conference on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. at the Martin County Courthouse, approximately 40 miles north of West Palm Beach. It remains unclear how Woods might change his plea or if he has reached a deal with prosecutors.
A Challenging Cycle for Woods
This year’s crash is part of a recurring pattern for Woods, marking another setback as he attempts to make a comeback after years of injuries. In March, his Land Rover crossed over double solid lines on a residential street and collided with another vehicle’s trailer, flipping the car onto its driver’s side.
Woods admitted to looking at his phone and changing the radio station while not seeing the other vehicle slowing down. He failed multiple field sobriety tests and refused to take a urine test to determine substance consumption.
