Now they have to find the money for the ransom. As they push for time, old hidden things start to surface. Those truths may shift how they see each other. Animals lands on Netflix on October 9, 2026. Netflix lists that date as the start of the streaming run. The title also shows up in select theaters that same day. Netflix says the movie lasts 1 hour and 48 minutes. In the U.S., it carries an R rating. The platform calls it a thriller, a drama, and a film that tackles social topics.
What is the film Animals about?
The story follows the Kimballs as they scramble for cash fast to meet the ransom demand after their son, Denny (played by Christopher Woodley), is taken. That is not all; the kidnapping becomes the first problem in a long set of worse ones. As they chase their son, they hit hard moments where they must choose, and they start to learn what each kept hidden.
The trailer also signals the film is not just a simple kidnapping story. Mark and Abigail’s marriage takes center stage. A fixer named Dayle (Gillian Anderson) meets with them and tells them that any secrets they have held back from each other must be revealed now. Affleck says the movie is really about marriage, and the compromises that come with trying to build a life with someone else.

In Animals, Abigail is the main focus. Mark is with her. Together, they try to handle the kidnapping and everything that follows. The plot does not only ask about the ransom; it also explores how strain can shake a marriage.
The movie comes out on October 9, after which viewers will see how far Mark and Abigail will go to get their son back.
Animals builds a tense kidnapping setup and raises another question: Can a marriage survive when secrets come to light?
